The Local Area

The immediate area consists of the community of St Joseph du Moine. About a hundred or so homes are scattered mostly along the Cabot Trail or on the nearby farms. Most families are connected with the fishing, farming or woodland industries.

 

The nearest town is Cheticamp about 10 minutes away. It is the Eastern gateway to the world famous Cape Breton Highlands National Park (~ 20 minutes)

The nearby Margaree River is famous for its salmon fishing. The river enters the Northumberland Strait at the small but picturesque fishing port of Margaree Harbour, with its lovely strand of sandy beach and dunes.
